SCORE Houston – Your Personal Mentoring Resource
By Dick Hall
Being a successful small business owner requires many personal qualities. It isn’t as easy as it may look. High on that list is a desire and willingness to learn new skills with the ability to change as your business environment evolves. Perhaps it’s time for a reminder about what SCORE Houston does for small business owners or someone interested in testing whether there is opportunity to become a small business owner.
SCORE Houston Chapter has over 100 experienced business mentors with backgrounds in almost every field. SCORE Mentors are retired and active business owners, executive and corporate leaders. An example of experience range from engineering, banking, accounting/CPA’s, construction, information technology, human resources, marketing, education, operations, manufacturing, textiles, importing, exporting, taxes, legal services, and on and on and on.
Even if you had the money to hire a consulting company, could you find one with this range of experience and skills? This is where our mentors and workshops can help. We offer mentoring in all areas free of charge and as often as you wish. You should understand that we don’t do the work for you, but we give advice and guidance for as long as you like and it is completely confidential. Request a mentor @https://houston.score.org/content/find-mentor-273.
In addition, SCORE offers many seminars and workshops in a variety of locations, (https://houston.score.org/content/locations-and-hours) throughout the greater Houston area. You can register on-line @https://houston.score.org/content/take-workshop-240. Many of these seminars and workshops are free and others are typically available for a nominal cost, sometimes with lunch included. Some of these are actual workshops where you learn how to use free software tools as part of the workshop.
We encourage attendees at our presentations to schedule a follow-on meeting with a mentor to reinforce the subject matter. We offer seminars and workshops on topics such as business planning, marketing planning, human resources, legal and financial, taxes, bookkeeping, social media, website development, and many more.
Few new entrepreneurs start a business knowing everything they need to know to maximize their success. We have found that business owners that accept continuing mentoring with the SCORE mentor of their choice are among the most successful.
If you are a struggling small business owner or someone that wants to start a business, you really should consider letting us try to assist you. That’s our mission and our pleasure! To get started just go to www.houston.score.org and request a mentoring session.
